Academic Partners

For decades, some of the world's leading universities have been leading the evolution of roadmapping. Alignent works in close partnership with these engineering schools to share best practices and ensure that the software suite incorporates the latest advances in the roadmapping discipline. Many of these universities also use Alignent's products as a core component of the classroom curriculum.

University of Cambridge

The Centre for Technology Management, part of the University of Cambridge Department of Engineering, aims to bridge the gap between industry and university research for all topics concerned with the effective integration of technological considerations into business decision making. The Centre provides industrial technology managers and the wider technology management community with a unique resource for investigating effective technology management practices. Alignent Software offers products and resources to support their efforts. In addition, many University of Cambridge technology management white papers, reports and surveys are made available via the Alignent Software resource library. Georgia Tech

The Aerospace Systems Design Laboratory (ASDL) in the School of Aerospace Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology was founded in 1992. ASDL focuses on the formulation, development and implementation of comprehensive approaches to the design of affordable and high quality complex systems, including aerospace, naval and power systems. The ASDL has been at the forefront of advanced design methods for cycle time reduction, uncertainty and risk assessments, technology forecasting, and Systems of Systems, Architecture-based Systems Engineering. The ASDL and Alignent Software partnership seeks to provide a seamless integration between detailed product design and development and program management.

Jaist

The Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), the first national university to do research at the world's highest level in selected fields of science and technology, uses Alignent's Vision Strategist in its Management of Technology courses. Vision Strategist has been selected as the best means to integrate global best practices to its strategic roadmapping methodology, with the ultimate goal of strengthening the long-term innovation capability of Japanese industry.

Johns Hopkins University

The Applied Physics Laboratory, a division of The Johns Hopkins University, is a not-for-profit research and development organization dedicated to solving complex problems that present critical challenges to the nation. Through advanced technology; highly qualified, diverse teams; hands-on operational knowledge; and a basic systems engineering approach, APL achieves affordable, effective solutions. APL's outstanding creative staff and world-class facilities have made the Laboratory a major asset to the nation for more than six decades. The organization uses Alignent Software products to support organizations like the Department of Defense, NASA and other government agencies. For more information, visit www.jhuapl.edu.

Penn State

The Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Penn State is the first industrial engineering department in the world. Since the department's establishment in 1908, Penn State has been developing a proud tradition of innovation in industrial engineering. This tradition continues today with a distinguished group of 26 faculty members, 13 professional staff, and more than 470 undergraduate and graduate students. Alignent Software provides its Vision Strategist roadmapping application to the department as a training tool in graduate level classes. Purdue University

Purdue University's Center for Technology Roadmapping strives to enhance strategic planning through the advancement of the art and science of technology roadmapping. Its mission is to enhance learning, discovery and engagement in the practice and implementation of the culture of roadmapping. Alignent Software works with the center to provide free access to the Vision Strategist roadmapping application, provided that all roadmaps created with it are viewable by all visitors to the Center for Technology Roadmapping website. Located in West Lafayette, Indiana, Purdue University serves nearly 70,000 students throughout its system. For more information visit roadmap.itap.purdue.edu/CTR/default.htm.

Tsinghua University

Originally established in 1911, Tsinghua University is China's preeminent educational institution, comprising of eight colleges, 43 departments, 44 research institutes, nine engineering research centers and 163 laboratories. The university is using Alignent Software products to create the Tsinghua Technology Roadmap Archive (TTRA), an Internet-searchable database for technology roadmaps in Asia. The TTRA is patterned after the Purdue Technology Roadmap Archive (PTRA), already online at Purdue University. The two universities have pledged to work together, sharing their archives to create the World-Wide Technology Roadmap Archive (WWTRA), the largest archive of technology roadmaps in the world.
